Calcium Hypochlorite is one of the most widely used shock chlorine
chemicals used in swimming pools. Also known as chlorine shock, these
shock chlorine granules provide a rapid source of chlorine for your
swimming pool. These Calcium Hypochlorite chlorine shock granules
contain about 70% available chlorine. Using calcium hypochlorite
provides a simple and effective method for adding shock chlorine to your
pool water.
Shock chlorine granules are designed to be used in conjunction with slow
chlorine (sometimes called stabilised chlorine). Slow chlorine is used
to provide the basic level of chlorine in your pool and the shock
chlorine granules are used to shock dose (in other words to top up) the
chlorine levels in the pool. In smaller pools it is possible to use
shock chlorine granules on their own without the use of slow chlorine.
How To Use Calcium Hypochlorite Shock Chlorine Granules
Chlorine Shock Treatment, for example to deal with an algae problem -
add 15g of shock chlorine granules per cubic meter of pool water.
Regular maintenance when used with slow chlorine - add 5g of shock
chlorine granules per cubic meter of pool water.
These dose rates are only suggestions. The chlorine levels in the pool
should be monitored using an appropriate test method such as our 3 in 1
test strips. Shock chlorine should then be added in small doses until
the required level is achieved. Always check the pH of the water after
chlorine shock has been added using our 3 in 1 test strips. Allow 24
hours between adding chlorine shock and adding algaecide to your pool.
These shock chlorine granules may form a dust cloud when poured. Ensure
that the area is adequately ventilated when using and wear a dust mask.
To prevent and damage to the pool liner, it is recommended that you
pre-dissolve these shock chlorine granules in a bucket and then add the
dissolved solution to the pool. Shock chlorine granules and water with a
high concentration of shock chlorine dissolved in it will bleach
clothes.
